This year for Memorial Day Val and Perry took the whole green gang (minus Joe and Beck, Logan, and that cute new baby) to Perry's family cabin in Cascade. We got to wake up the first morning to some visitors which was really fun for the kids. I remember seeing wildlife all the time when I was young so I am glad that the kids get that same experience.
That first morning we also had a hatchet throwing contest. Will and Perry both had bets that Val and I could not get it into the tree in 10 tries.
Perry got the job of fetching the hatchet when we failed to even hit the tree. He sure got his workout that morning.
Val did pull out some mad hatchet throwing skills and got the grand prize of "Ruby free" fishing. Will was pretty excited too that I couldn't do it since the whole weekend of diaper duty was on the table.
After the hatchet throwing and breakfast we went down to the lake for some fishing. I love this pic because if you look close you can see Em and Dani's fish on the line
Sam's First Fish
My daughter is fearless Sam's second fish also caught me and Val.
Emilee and Dani caught the most that day with 6. They were on fire!
Playing ball in the woods
Jake was having trouble locating his shoes so he decided to get creative
The holiday was on Trica and Als birthday this year so we got to celebrate while we were there. They had decided they wanted a cake with a dino eating a cow. Val and I had to improvise a little but they loved the finished cake.
and of course no camping trip is complete without smores
Will, Aunt Holly, and Uncle Ken
Aunt Sam and Aunt Dani
Uncle Ken
Aunt Val
All the girls and Jakers
Emmy had a double ear infection while we were there so she got pretty cranky that night. After smores everyone wanted a chance at the hatchet throwing.
Holly, of course, got it on the first try.
Since we were on such a sugar high from the smores we decided to move on to the skittle game. The girls neglected to tell us that to win you have to make it through the game without throwing up. You take two skittles out of the bag and if they match you can chew them til someone else gets a match. If they dont match you hold them in your mouth til you get a match. The bag goes around and around til all the skittles are gone. It was horrible!
Several of us did not win and I dont think I will ever eat skittles again! We went fishing again on Monday and hit a hot spot. I cant believe how fast we were catching them.
While we were fishing this huge eagle came out and flew over the lake several times. It was really cool to watch him.
Rubes chillin with Aunt Al
Right before we left Em caught and reeled up a fish all by herself (or almost)
After cleaning up the cabin and the fish we got ready to hit the hot springs before heading home.
Aunt Trica braided Ems hair for the pool
Swimming right before coming home was a great idea we were not more than a mile down the road and the kids were asleep. It was nice having a quiet ride home. (we dont get that very often!) The whole weekend was a blast! Thanks so much to Val and Perry for providing the awesome cabin!
Will and I have been married over five years. We have three beautiful kids. Emmy Jo, our princess. Jakers, our little monkey, and Levi, our new baby boy. Even though it is not always easy we are enjoying the journey!
